Director’s Note

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.” – George R. R. Martin

Welcome to the Texas premiere of THE BOOKSTORE by Adam Szymkowicz! Prepare for all the warmth and fuzzy vibes that you’d get watching a Hallmark rom com such as Good Witch or the 90’s classic, You’ve Got Mail!

Bookstores have always been one of my favorite places. My mom taught me the magic of going to the library when I was a kid, and even today, I think of Barnes and Noble as my own personal Hogwarts. A huge source of inspiration for the piece you are about to see was a local bookstore in the Woodlands called Buy The Book, and their sweet bookstore cat, Luna!

I’d like to say thank you to my fellow KOT directors, the Klein Oak Theatre Booster Club, Klein Oak High School Administration, Klein Oak Library and the Klein ISD Fine Arts team. A very special thank you to the Seniors involved in this production - your dedication to your craft is so inspiring – and to Jessica Torres!

On our first day of rehearsal, the cast, crew, and directors shared our favorite books and authors. Titles ranged from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff and A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein all the way to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. As readers who have “lived a thousand lives,” we are so excited to present this cozy bookstore story to you.

I strongly believe that theatre is not complete without an audience; thank you for being ours. Enjoy!
