Set in 5th century Greece, The Olympians: an Epic Muse-ical is an eclectic romp about changing your narrative. Zeus, Apollo, and a pantheon of female goddesses are feared and revered as they send four unsuspecting mortals on a quest to find a female hero. Similar to the counterculture of the 1970s, a period of women’s liberation, freedom fighting, and revolt, the Olympians learn that fighting for an emblematic ideal is not as powerful as impacting your own community.
Engaging our students in a musical is always a risk, and this production is no different! We are performing the Kansas premiere (and basically the national premiere) of an unknown title, and although our audience may recognize the songs, the story is new and pretty ridiculous! We hope that you’ll go with us on this epic journey back to a 1970’s inspired Greece and enjoy the efforts of our students. This entire production is designed, built, painted, and created by over a hundred students. From the posters and the artwork, to the props and the set pieces, our students take charge of committees and create the looks and sounds you see and hear. We’re very proud of their commitment to the arts with their already busy schedules. Over half of the cast and crew participated in a fall sport on top of their classes and work schedules and every single student has an additional activity that they were involved in this fall. In fact, we have not had a single rehearsal where all cast and crew members have been present. However, we are proud of our creative and talented kids and we know they are thrilled about the culture they bring to our school and community!
