DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Anxiety and depression are two mental deficiencies that I have been diagnosed with since returning from the Iraq War. Did I know that I would be learning how to deal with these issues by directing or producing a play? No I did not. But I am thankful for the characters Sam and Chase for introducing me to the countdown method. I hope that Chameleon A New Musical, will help you just as much as it helped me. What I have also learned from being a part of such a poignant and remarkable script is tenacity, patience and the idea that theatre will always come together. You just need time and repitition. To go from wanting to fire the entire cast on day 1 to such a phenomenal work of art, has truly taught me that working hard, having a bit of faith and a bit of luck will make dreams come true.

I am proud to have been the defining force behind bringing Chameleon A New Musical to the world. To have worked with Daisy and the Villegas family has truly

been a rewarding experience. Sometimes, while working on this script, I forget that Daisy has been blind since birth. When I found out that she can see as much as I could while peeping through two tiny holes in the nose of my College Mascot suit, I was blown away. Because for me, I never had to see like that for more than a two hour basketball game. Daisy has been seeing like that her entire life and the gift that she gave the world with Chameleon, is unbelievable and such a remarkable feat. Well done Daisy and the cast of Chameleon A New Musical.

Now is the time to open your candy, silence your phones and watches and get ready to join us as we present: Chameleon A New Musical by THE, Daisy Villegas.

Sincerely,

Benny Lee Harris Lumpkins Jr.
