The Sparrow - October 23 - October 26, 2014

Lake Central High School

 End Notes

Notes from the Director

Have you ever sought out unconditional love and acceptance? Have you ever been afraid to let others know who you truly are inside and out? Have you hidden away apart of yourself, in fear that you may be judged?  Have you ever made a mistake that would later come to haunt you? The Sparrow weaves itself in and out of each question with grace and integrity. On the outside this play seems to be that of interesting themes and comical backdrops, but the heart of the show resides in its main character’s struggles as a young high school girl with special powers. Is she strong enough to return to her community, to face her fears and to be herself? Will her community accept her? Can they look past their own grief? Can they walk in her shoes? My theatre students have completely fallen in love with this play  and its characters. I have seen my cast and crew laugh and cry during rehearsals as each scene and each character is brought to life.  Never has a play, in my experience, been so challenging and rewarding at the same time.  This show is one of a kind.  As with most theatre productions, I hope this show touches your heart and sparks conversation long after you have experienced it.
