Director’s Notes – Pamela Beck-Danovich

A few years ago, I was privileged to work on an iconic piece of our shared cultural experience when I directed The Addams Family Musical for Lakeland Players. I thought directing something so well known, but in a different venue, was rare, but last year I was proud to direct ELF: The Musical, and now – YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

This show, for various reasons, has been years in the making. We’ve all been through our own trials and tribulations, battling monsters, so to speak, over the last few years. But finally, we can say, and perhaps even sing, we have brought this show to life. It’s not easy working with what might be the best comedy movie of all time and trying to reanimate it for a small, live theater setting. I’ll let you in on a secret, though. If you get the best people together into a group, the director’s job becomes really easy. Take a bunch of random parts, put them together, and you can make something really big. And make that a new part of your family.

And that’s what community theater is about. Throughout the process, the cast and crew – thrown together, working together, performing together, become family. And hopefully, through watching this wonderful show, you, the audience, can join our family.

There are an awful lot of people that work very hard on getting a show from concept to production. Many of them you never see under the harsh lights of the stage. But rest assured, without their hard work and dedication, we wouldn’t be able to put on the show that you see before you.

We hope that you enjoy our version of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Putting it together was a doozy. But throughout the process, we always felt IT…COULD…WORK! And now, without further ado, may we present that dashing man-about-town – YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.
