Disney's High School Musical - March 06 - March 10, 2018

Lambrick Park Secondary School

 Director's Note

“High School Musical” in many ways is this generation’s “Grease”; most of these students have grown up singing the songs, watching the movies, and dreaming about being Gabriella or Troy.  Students ask every year for “High School Musical” and the time has finally come.

It has been fun developing characters that are new to me, but so well known to many.  We have worked very hard not to recreate the movie on stage, but re-invent Lambrick Park’s own version of “High School Musical”.   In order to do this 90% of the choreography is original and it is one of the reasons we changed the school colours to blue and grey (nowhere in the script does it say red).

“High School Musical” is a popular show with a message we can all get behind.  No teen should be forced to only be a part of one clique in school, or be someone they aren’t.  They should be free to be who they truly are; “We are All in this Together”.

It takes a team to make any show possible.  This show would not have made it to the stage without the hard work and support of Barry Jansen, who works without complaint directing our pit band consisting of current students, alumni and a borrowed student from Reyonlds Secondary, Bella.  Barry is a constant support to me personally and the quiet foundation that may go unnoticed to many, but without him the show would crumble.

I would also like to thank our choreographer Kanika Jackson, who was willing to take the time and join us this year in addition to her position as choreographer of the Reynolds Secondary musical, "Spamalot".  It was so great to be able to work with her again, and she has done an amazing job with our cast of non-dancers in a show littered with choreography.

As well, I would like to thank my CYC practicum student Sarah Hein.  Sarah chose to do her second-year Child and Youth Care observation practicum with the Lambrick Park’s Musical Theatre program this year.  Hopefully she has gotten as much out of it, as we have of her; she has been an immense help throughout the rehearsals to both me and the students, and I thank her for it.

I guess it is safe to say Lambrick has brought back the Musical Theatre program.  Two down and hopefully many more to go.  Enjoy the show!
