A Note from the Production Team
Lapeer Performing Arts program is thrilled to present Anything Goes. Our team of three: Lyniece Fenner, William Spruytte, and Rafeal McDaniel-Walker, has labored vigorously to bring this show, set in the 1920’s, to life.
As our patrons settle in for an evening of musical theater, here is a short synopsis. Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal, Billy Crocker, has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner is Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin, and his sidekick-in-crime, Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors, and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Moonface join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.
We all agree that this has been one of the most fulfilling and strenuous production processes that we have worked on. This show required work with lines, blocking, music, and choreography while meanwhile constructing a very massive set. We achieved our objectives quickly because the cast and their families gathered together as a foundation of support. A special shout out is due to the cast, who had to adapt to a very dance-heavy show. Our singers and actors have been transformed into fantastic dancers, and that feat can only be achieved by hours of dedication, frustration, and passion.
The production team thanks you all for your support of the Lapeer Performing Arts program. Parents: thank you for allowing us to work with your children. Patrons: thank you for coming out to see our show. Sponsors: Thank you for your continued financial support. We are excited to see all of our stakeholders at future productions and hope that our paths continue to cross.
A special thanks to the Richard Kreuzkamp Performing Arts endowment and the Kreuzkamp families' generosity. This endowment helped fund this show’s production cost and will continue to support our performing arts program well into the future. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Kreuzkamp Performing Arts endowment in 2023.
Salute to you all, and to the illustrious tapestry that you all assemble that we call Lapeer.
