This year marks my thirteenth year as an arts educator at LVA. Many of the senior students performing on stage tonight were in the very first classes of students I started with at LVA. I believe that is quite remarkable, and that I am quite fortunate.
Over the past thirteen years, with the unfailing support of Susan Mauser and our admin teams, and the solid foundation set by Monica Haywood and the educators before me, our shared ambitions have developed into a thriving curricular and extra curricular program.
With the addition of a performance space on campus in the coming year, I cannot help but wish to acknowledge the contributions of my seniors and their parents. Not just those who have been here since my start, or those who are here tonight, but to every LVA family who has allowed the performing arts to nurture and celebrate their students’ growth.
We are so fortunate to have art to share our hope and joys in, to imagine the world we wish to see in, and to laugh at our past misgivings - lest we repeat them.
That is what this show truly means to me. Honoring our past, and leaning into our future.
