 A Note From the Director

Welcome!

We are so excited to have you here with us at our production of Everyman.  Everyman is a morality play written in the fourteenth century A.D. by an anonymous writer over 200 years before Shakespeare burst onto the scene.  Originally written in Old English, the script we are using tonight is a translated one into modern English.

As a morality play, more than ever the message of this show should be obvious and clear. The message is thus, when we die, our good deeds is all that we will be able to have to show for our lives on earth, so make sure there are plenty of them.  I know it sounds simplistic, but it really is that simple.

Another thing to think about in this play that really impacted me was how all of Everyman's friends at first express their willingness to help and journey with him, however when it becomes hard, they almost all leave him in the end.  Is this the kind of friend that we want to be?

Tonight, I encourage you all to think about the good deeds that you do on a daily basis and evaluate whether it is enough.  I also encourage you to think about how you can be a better friend to those around you.
