Notes from the Director
INTO the WOODS is a comedic musical “mashup” featuring everyone's favorite fairytale characters. The show focuses on the retelling of many well-known fairytales that have been combined into one unique story. INTO the WOODS tells the story of people wanting more than they have and ultimately getting everything they wish for. They soon realize the consequences of their actions as their “wishes” end up having disastrous results. It is a modern twist that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel-all tied together in an original story featuring a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them! You may be familiar with the play form the 1988 Broadway production that won Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. In 2014, the play was made into a major motion picture. What drew me to the play wasn’t the obvious commercial success of the production, but the clear message that it sends. Sometimes we don’t realize how truly blessed our lives were until we get what we "thought" we actually wanted!
Tonight will be bittersweet as I will be watching my seniors in their final performances. I am proud of each one and am truly thankful for what they have done for this program. I look forward to the great things I know they will accomplish with their lives.
Emma Soistmann – Your joyful spirit and incredible work ethic are an amazing combination for success. Don’t ever lose the joy!
Savannah Morris – I could be wrong, but I think you have been in this theatre program longer than I have! Never, ever doubt your talent, your skill, or your abilities. You can only go as far as you believe you can.
Aaron Hall – God has blessed you with an amazing amount of talent! To whom much is given, much is required! Make your mark in the world.
Anthony Hurt – The career you have had in LCA Theatre has been amazing, but I'm sure that is only the beginning. Be focused, be strong, and keep your faith at all times. (Joshua 1:9)
Isabella Meadows - I always think of the crazy little kid who came to my drama camp so many years ago. Now you have grown into an incredibly talented young lady. Reach for the stars and don't "stray from the path!"
Grant Harrington - This was your first year in theatre, but you have made a huge impact. You do so many things well, that I'm not sure what your future holds, but I'm sure you'll be the best at doing it!
Kevin Smith - I don't know what to say. I mean ... literally ... I have no idea what to say. Just remember to persevere towards your goals.
Lauren Gutierrez - I have been blessed to have had the honor of directing you over the past two years. Keep dancing, keep singing, and most of all...keep smiling!
Mikayla Anders - You are a true "Renaissance Woman". You have so many exceptional talents. Don't doubt yourself because there are no limits on your potential!
Bryce James - You have been a true joy to work with. Continue to work hard at all you do. Your amazing attitude will carry you a long way!
Remember to always perform for the "Audience of One" ... not just in this show, but for the rest of your lives!
