The Wizard of Oz (Young Performers' Edition) - February 19 - February 27, 2021

Liberty Christian Academy

 End Notes

Notes from the Director:

Where do I begin? Eight years ago, our high school drama department performed the Wizard of Oz at the Tower Theater on the campus of Liberty University. The show averaged over 500 people in attendance. Incredible performances by John Travis, Casey Jordan, Karra Inman, Teagan Cooper, Maddie Logan, and Landry Coleman made this one of the most memorable shows ever produced by LCA Theatre!

I am very excited to revisit this iconic play with our middle school and elementary school students. While we have a few experienced actors in this production, the majority of these students have had very limited time on the stage. They have worked extremely hard getting ready for the show. While it has been difficult, it has also been a lot of fun! Every day has certainly been an adventure!

There is something about the Wizard of Oz that is so appealing to all of us. In times of trouble, we all long for that special place. Of course, we soon learn that we cannot simply run away from our problems. This is one of the very lessons that Dorothy learns. Who isn't moved by Dorothy's dream of that special place?

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that's where you'll find me

As a Christian, in times of trouble, we are secure in the knowledge that we are able to go straight to the Creator of the Universe. in His perfect plan, all will be made right! We are also blessed with the reality that there is a special place somewhere over the rainbow where there is a perfect paradise, where there is no sadness, and there are no tears!

In your life, I pray that you have the knowledge of the Scarecrow, the courage of the Lion, the love of the Tin Man, and most importantly ... the faith of Dorothy!

Enjoy your journey down the Yellow Brick Road and your journey through life!

Judges 18:6
The priest answered them, “Go in peace.
Your journey has the Lord’s approval.”
