‘My Fair Lady’ is a timeless classic, famed for its beautiful score, witty script and its Cinderella transformation of Eliza Doolittle from a cockney flower girl to an upper-class lady. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to direct this show here at LHS.
The roles of Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins are extremely challenging. Rae and Frank have done an incredible job bringing these two extremely complex characters to life, subtly hinting at their growing friendship throughout the show. It’s no mean feat to play the romantic leads in a musical where the protagonists argue in practically every scene and don’t sing a single love duet together.
The core group of characters, including our talented Colonel Pickering and Mrs. Pearce, have worked extremely hard as a team to create a fun and dynamic performance for you. Between accents and character depth, this show brings a challenge to the actors, and these four have surely risen to the occasion.
This particular cast, every single person included, has been a complete joy to work with. I have truly loved the experience. A number of ensemble dances in this show have long dance breaks, which takes a lot of work, specifically for those who are not dancers, but there has been much laughter and joy throughout the entire process. Any movement I have put on them, no matter how difficult or complex, they were up for the challenge. I have also enjoyed the students sharing out their own artistic ideas. I was thrilled to have one of our cast members, Maddie Tufts, wanting the opportunity to choreograph some dances. I am always happy to have students create the work on their own.
Finally, we could not have put on this production without our crew, pit, and everyone who helped along the way. Please see the billing, crew/pit, and acknowledgements pages for all those who have made this show possible.
