Guys and Dolls - April 12 - April 14, 2017

Los Alamitos High

 End Notes

From the Director:

Welcome to a huge collaborative effort!  From our new and amazing vocal director, Stephen Amundson, the continuing efforts of our resident history teacher/choreographer, Mrs. Armstrong, our student technical team led by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Ruckman, our collaboration with Mr. Padilla and his wonderful instrumental students, and the incomparable dance department dancers, choreographed by student Summer Jennings, I am in my collaborative element!  This team has been inspiring to work with!

Our newly formed Los Alamitos Drama Boosters have been so incredibly supportive, and we wouldn't be where we are without them.

Over the past four years, I have strived to create an educational theatre experience for students that include all types of theatrical experiences, comedy, drama, musicals, and plays.  The effort that it takes to produce a musical is beyond what many people could start to wrap their heads around.  With the building of this program, we have come to our biggest musical theatre endeavor yet!

We have student scenic, costume, lighting, and publicity design.  We have a student choreographer, and an amazing stage management team.  We get to work with dancers and student musicians, artists, and builders, and the efforts have been huge!

I love Guys and Dolls.  A light-hearted romp about asking what we all really want in our relationships, this show gives us colorful characters, dancing gangsters, and a sneezing showgirl.  It is truly a great way to showcase so many of our students.  The size of the show gives a number of students opportunities to learn how to be in a musical, how to work as a team, how to build a show, and how to perform.

As our department grows, I am amazed to see these students grow, as performers, as scholars, and as people get involved with this program, I am so happy to be able to help create memories of their high school experience that I hope will stick with them forever.

We hope that you enjoy the show, see the growth in the performers and the technicians, and continue to support the arts in public education.

Thank you!
