Disney's Descendants - April 18 - April 20, 2024

Lyndhurst Middle School Musical

 Director's Note

So why, why Descendants? The production's theme of acceptance of people who are very different from you, and not blaming a whole group for the wrongs of a few is something that I think we can all understand and hope we can ascend to achieving in our own lives. As a society, nation and world, we have all been encouraged to choose a side of politics, gender, religious views, racial background, etc. and to stick like glue to people who resemble ourselves. If we are to become better people, we have to recognize differences and give space for people to freely be themselves, while also acknowledging that we all want many of the same things: Love, Acceptance, Belonging, Acknowledgement.

This story is one that is as "Old as Time," a modern Day Romeo and Juliet love story; a story of wanting acceptance like Oedipus the King. This play is fun and fantastical and yet has a good moral and happy ending. We have had fun working on it and yet it has been one of the hardest productions our department has produced yet. We have all worn multiple hats in putting this together, a true collaborative team experience. We have been tired and also motivated! This is the largest cast and crew of any production since I came to LMS; I just kept saying yes to everyone who wanted to be involved. Doesn't this reinforce the themes of inclusion and acceptance? What a great problem to have, almost 60 students involved in this production.

So, like one of the songs say, “We’re Better Together” is our resounding theme for the show and for theatre! It has been a great journey with this cast, crew and creative team. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such talented people. I hope you enjoy the show!
