 End Notes

FROM THE WRITER/DIRECTOR, MIRANDA SPIGENER-SAPON

This play has truly been a labor of love and will always have a special place in my heart.  It was the first major production I had the opportunity to do right out of film school.  It all started from a little short story I wrote in 1994 called Frozen in Time. I was only a year out of high school and eager to submit to publications as a writer. A chance to get a tiny excerpt of the story in Seventeen was like a dream come true for a 19 year old and then in the NYC young women’s newspaper The New Girl Time. A year later it won the WCOP Short Story Award.  All this was such a blessing and then the opportunity to adapt it for stage came and to be hired to direct it for what would be a sold out run in Houston, Texas and Off-Broadway New York City, September 1997. Now, here we are 20 years later and with this wonderfully talented cast on stage in Los Angeles, CA! Thank you everyone for supporting me and The Flame.

This story was my first to really start writing strong female characters, because all women have voices...whether its our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, friends, colleagues or any woman. You can do it.

Thank you, be well and goodnight!
