Director's Note:

This season we wanted to choose a musical that really showcased our students’ talent, while also sharing the fun and upbeat feeling musical theatre can bring! After such successes as Shrek: The Musical and The Drowsy Chaperone, we wanted to share a story that could connect with all audiences, and The Little Mermaid became a part of our world. Our story begins under the sea, where we meet the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel. Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above and pursue her dreams. To do so she bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, trading her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea. Through her journey, our musical explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and the pursuit of dreams. These too are common explorations our high school students face everyday. In a time of growing, discovering who you are, finding your voice, all while facing obstacles or even sacrifices, our students learn that following your dreams may not be easy, but never out of reach. With support from those who love you, friends, family, teachers, or a crustacean, anything is possible. Now with that being said, we welcome you to our spring musical, The Little Mermaid. As a wise crab once sang, “life is the bubbles under the sea!”

Enjoy!
