If you think it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a city to put on a musical.Musicians, singers, dancers, and actors are only the tip of the iceberg. Behind them lurk the people who wield power tools and paintbrushes, push brooms and dishcloths, sewing machines and scissors. The people who get the word out and put the words together to make a program, answer phones and send out emails, feed the cast and crew and clean up the dishes afterwards. In the theatre, we have a word for all these people – “Angels”. I have always thought this a fitting term. Our Angels range from Pastors, Office staff and Custodial staff and balloon out to family, parents, grandparents, friends and random people who see us working and stop to lend a hand. If you recognize yourself as an Angel – thank you! You make it possible for kids to go from strangers to family: to form ties and relationships that last a lifetime and discover and nurture their talents and gifts.

There are a few very special Angels I would like to thank - so I hope you will indulge me and, if you see any of these people after the show, give them a hug for me and for all the cast and crew - they have really earned their wings! Tim Stickley, Tracy Kline, Mary and David Bright, Carol Neff, Kathy Thomas, John Lifford, Charlotte Buschur, CJ Langmack, Emerson Schwarz, Diane MacPherson, Bryce Schill, and everyone who helped with the load in and will help with Strike - you all deserve a standing ovation!

Synopsis:

Once upon a time, in a far away land...well, you all know the story of the princess and the pea. Here we get the real story - told by the Minstrel and filled with all the bits the fairy tale left out.

Did you know that the Queen was actually trying to maintain her power by refusing to let her son, Prince Dauntless the Drab, get married? To do this, in order to marry the prince, eligible princesses had to take a test - to prove that they were TRUE princesses. Of course, every one of them fails - which is were we come into the story. The minstrel lands in town the day of the test of Princess 12. Here we find that not only are the tests rigged, but that there is a marriage law that declares that NO one could get married till the prince was married?

So of course we have to have a sub plot with two lovers, Sir Harry and Lady Larkin, who defy the marriage law, and then end up in quite a pickle....They try to find the perfect princess for Dauntless and their quest seems to be successful - until they find out the Queen is plotting to ensure that Winifred fails the princess test.

Did I mention that the queen's husband, King Sextimus, was put under a curse years ago that states "the king can't talk till the mouse devours the hawk?" Oh, and there's a wizard who wants to be the queen's right hand man and is being led on by the queen who has no plans on sharing any of her power?

Will the prince ever get his princess? Will Lady L and Sir H be able to publicly declare their love? Will the king ever talk other than thru his interpreter, the jester? Stay in your seats and find out as we take you into the true story of the princess and the pea.
