A Note From the Director...

In 1989, I raced home after seeing “The Little Mermaid” and proceeded to draw every single character in the movie with crayons on my Dad’s printer paper with the strip of holes that ran down either side.  That movie inspired me in ways no movie ever had.  The characters were funny. . . they were colorful. . . they sang!  But most of all, they helped tell a story about a girl who would stop at nothing to pursue a dream.  In Ariel’s case, that dream was to be a part of the human world.  It sounds like magical fantasy, of course.  But looking back, my dreams weren’t so different from all that.  I look around today at the students of the McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts, and I see passionate, young dreamers.  Much like Ariel.  And many times, they worry that these dreams are impossible.  “The Little Mermaid” teaches us that determination and confidence can overcome these moments of doubt.  What better show to share with a group of dreams like the students of MRCA?  We’ve had a marvelous time exploring the magic of “The Little Mermaid.”  I invite you to come with us, and think about those dreams you may have floating around in your minds.

Cheers,

John Blaylock
