I have the hardest time writing directors notes. I never know how to accurately tell you, the audience, how special the show you are about to see is but I'll try.
Shrek: The Musical, Jr. is like an onion. Or an Ogre. Or a parfait. It has layers: Great characters, catchy songs, fun costumes, and a whole lot of fart jokes. What more could you ask for?
But what I love most about this musical is the message - Acceptance, flaws and all. This musical is one of my all time favorites and getting the opportunity to direct the Jr version with this incredible group of young people has only made me fall in love with it even more.
Every single person connected to this production is wonderful and brave and weird and special and we celebrate that. And now you are also a part of our story. I hope you leave tonight happier, lighter, and with the knowledge that "what makes us special makes us strong".
