 MID-COLUMBIA MUSICAL THEATRE

A Note from the President and The Addams Family Director -

Duh, Duh, Duh, Duh *snap-snap*

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, and I couldn’t be more to thrilled to share this quirky and loveable family with the Mid-Columbia Musical Theatre audience.

Charles Addams’ original characters were first invented as a comic strip in 1938; since then his darkly weird, warped, and gruesome Addams family has been featured in a TV sit-com, two Hollywood films, a cartoon, and most recently in an award-winning Broadway musical. Andrew Lippa, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s show originally opened on Broadway in 2010 satisfying the legions of The Addams Family fans out there.

The Addams Family finds the charmingly creepy clan facing a new nightmare: daughter Wednesday has fallen in love…with a nice young man from Ohio!! Despite the pair’s plea for things to just be normal for once, the dinner party hosted by Gomez and Morticia to meet the boy’s parents soon goes devilishly awry, testing the bonds of family, love, and unholy matrimony.

One of the things I love most about this wickedly hilarious musical is that while it stays true to the irreverent spirit and morbid humor of the original comics, it also illustrates that though the unknown may be frightening, when we chose to be true to who we are on the inside, love and acceptance are still attainable. And just as important, the story pushes us to consider what is normal. My hope is that it will have you asking yourself, “What is normal anyway, and honestly, isn’t it a bit overrated?” Because as Morticia Addams once wisely stated, “Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.”

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with such an amazing production team and cast and crew. The love, sweat, and tears that have gone into this production have been so worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you to MCMT for allowing me the opportunity to sit in the Director’s Chair, for the endless dedication and hard work of our production team and cast and crew, and for the incredible support of my wonderful family.

Thank you for attending, welcome, and enjoy the show. You will find love and acceptance as you Move Toward the Darkness. For when it’s dark enough, we see the stars.
