To our Wonderful Patrons,
What an absolute blast to work on this show and bring the 80's rock bands to life with a new generation. From explaining the pain of making a mix tape to giving 80's fashion and make-up tips, it has been a reliving of my own childhood and a whole lot of fun. I selected this show as we have had a great rock band program here and wanted a show to showcase those students. What I didn't expect is to laugh so much every day and enjoy the comedic nature of this show. When dealing with "teen editions" of some shows, they alter the characters or the story. I truly feel this edition encapsulates the hilarity of the original in a fun and approperiate manner for our high school students. It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is what we all need a bit in our lives.
To mount any show it truly takes a team and we are so fortunate to have a great team here at Mingus. Carla and Stephen Renard create original choreography from scratch and I am constantly amazed at their patience and dedication. Caleb Wright is joining us this semester in Technical Theatre and he has brought new presicion and energy to the stagecraft department. What is most impressive to me are the student designers who have stepped up this year. Our entire costume and make-up department this year is student created, designed, and executed. To say I am beyound proud of their accomplishements and creativity is an understatement.
I'd like to also take a brief moment to thank those who have contributed to the tax credit program here at the school. Without our tax credit donors would would not be able to bring the professional productions that we have become know for here at ATORT Theatre. I wish I could say that ticket sales covers the cost of all of our materials, but sadly it doesn't come close. We are commited to keeping ticket prices as affordable as possible for our patrons, so Tax Credit donations really come into play. Additionally, the businesses that partnered with us to purchase advertisements, we thank you immensley!
Thank you for making it to Rock of Ages! While we put up posters, have social media and radio ads, and are gratful for the newspaper publicity, YOU are our best form of advertisement. We appreciate all your help in letting others know of the shows here at ATORT Theatre. We look forward to seeing you at Comedy of Errors in April!
All the best,
James Ball
