Director’s Notes
Bibbity Bobbity Boo may be nowhere to be found in the script of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella script but the meaning stays the same. Cinderella is your rags to riches story and this version, edited in 2013 with additional script material written by Douglas Beane, keeps that element of the story while adjusting some of what you have come to know in the story. There are no magic mice who sew and our prince has a bit more of a character to him.
In writing this adaptation of the story, the goal was to give Cinderella a little bit more of a backbone and give some realism into other characters. It even gives some redemption opportunities for some of the show’s worst characters.
I struggled mightily with deciding a show for this year. I read countless scripts and paged through different shows. With our unique mix of ages in our department, I wanted to find a show that showed off our abilities and gave room to grow for a number of our younger actors. I believe that Cinderella did that in so many ways. It was such a great experience to see these students grow in so many ways in the process of this show. It pushed some into learning some dance moves. It pushed some into using their voices to sing. It pushed some to take on a character that was so different from who they are. All told, it pushed all of us. Myself included.
So at this point, we are ready to transport you to a place that is different from what you expect. While there are no singing mice, I trust you to use your imagination as we transport into a new location (with an INCREDIBLE SET- More than I could have ever dreamed of) and a new time with some magic on the side.
Thank you for coming and enjoy the show!
