I’m never really sure why I am drawn to particular shows. Theatre to me is about the experience or witnessing a story live, and drawing real emotion from a crowd. The Laramie Project is one of the most challenging shows I have ever done for a number of reasons. This show is a sometimes referred to as a documentary, since each and every word comes from interviews, journals, and recordings. Each and every character is a real person, with real opinions and stories to tell, and nothing in this play is made up, or imagined. The event that happened in Laramie, Wyoming affected families, friends, the community, and even had a global effect that was undeniably real. The students here at Mountain Pointe have worked so hard the last few weeks to share Matthew Shepard’s story with the school and their community. Actors, crew, and the GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance Club) have done an outstanding job, and I am very proud of them. I also want to thank the administration and the district office for allowing our school to put on such an important and relative show. And lastly, I want to thank you, the audience, for coming to our shows and supporting the Mountain Pointe Theatre Company time and time again.
Sincerely,
Corey Quinn
