Thank you for supporting the Nativity Players Theater
Ministry's sophomore production! The past two months have been a crazy, colorful, joy-filled ride with a cast, instrumentalists and crew of over 60! We’ve had so much fun and learned so much and we hope you will enjoy “Monkey-ing Around” with us tonight!
Our music director, Sara, came to me last year with a recommendation of producing Seussical for our sophomore production – we can have kids in the show, families will love it, and it has a great pro-life message. And, yes, all of the above. But the first message from the story that stood out for me was Gertrude’s. She thinks she isn’t pretty enough to be noticed by Horton, so she allows herself to be swayed by others into taking pills to change herself. We’ve all had a moment or two when we looked in the mirror and wished something was different. But our Creator created each of us with a gifts and talents unique to us and He created us perfectly! When we accept that, we are free to fulfill the purpose He created us for. Like Gertrude, we often forget we are amazing, just the way we are.
The more we got into the story, the more I started thinking that Horton must be a Christian! Not only when Horton accepts care of a baby that wasn’t his, but also Horton’s understanding that every person has dignity and worth - “no matter how small.” And even though Horton is ridiculed and treated terribly for doing what he knows is right, he never wavers. May we always strive to be like Horton – to do what is right, no matter what others say, and to be an example that others – like the Sour Kangaroo and the Young Kangaroo in her pouch – will want to follow.
