North High Drama Club

 A Note From The Director

Working on a Ken Ludwig show always reminds me of how much I enjoy good, old fashioned comedy (remember The Carol Burnett Show?).  Ludwig masterfully combines classic comedic conventions (such as mistaken identities and exaggerated pratfalls) with witty dialogue, resulting in rip-roaring fun.  I hope you have a belly-laugh or two as you enjoy this performance!

Being new to the Davenport North family has been an exciting challenge this fall, both as a teacher and as a director.  I can honestly say that I have been welcomed, encouraged, and assisted (a lot!) by some truly wonderful people.  Thanks to all of you who have helped me attempt to learn how to be a North Wildcat!  Overall, my students have been receptive to me and my sometimes-crazy ways, and I have enjoyed working with them backstage, onstage, and in the classroom.  Thanks to all of you who support this fantastic program!

These students have worked really hard to bring a great show to the Holzworth stage.  As you get lost in the hectic, chaotic world of George and Charlotte Hay, I hope you can recognize the effort it took to bring this story to you, and that you will congratulate these students on a job well done.  Comedy is supposed to look easy and spontaneous, but creating it takes perseverance and hours of repetitive work.

It wasn't all hard work, though - sometimes rehearsing this show was just darn good fun.  Thanks to the cast and crew for your great attitudes and willingness to play with this show!

Audrey Hepburn once said, simply, "Laughter cures a multitude of ills."  It also helps forge new friendships! I have shared some good laughs with both the Language Arts and Performing Arts faculty here at North.  Thanks to all of you for your great attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to point "the new kid" in the right direction (often).  Thanks, too, to the North High School Administration for your support of the fine arts.  So many real-life learning experiences happen when preparing a production - it is crucial that our students continue to have the opportunity to study, rehearse, and create artistically.  Truly, nothing better prepares them for their future endeavors.

Of course, thank you to my family - Dan, Helena, Isobel, and Pete.  As always, your support means that I get to help a great group of students live and learn in the theatre for another season.  You're the best!

Thank you all for continuing to support Davenport North - Wildcat productions as we enter another exciting season!
