Director's Note:
This show is based on the popular Adam Sandler movie from 1998. I have always really enjoyed this movie, especially since it was produced before Adam Sandler stopped being funny. :) When I heard it was a musical, I knew someday I would want to direct it. I was hoping they would keep our 80's classic songs, but the new score is very fun and definitely has that 80's techno-sound we love so much.
This play has been the most fun to direct! I have felt like I was in a time machine going back to 1986 (A delorean time machine...). Having been a teenager in the 80's, I have been reliving some memories, some good, some downright scary. Although it is set in the era of my youth, this play is actually about love, friendship, and holding on to what is important when we go through rough times. The kids and I have been suprised at how deep some of the messages and meanings are in this play. I hope my students will remember the lessons they have learned through the telling of this story. Sometimes life really does give us garbage. And as the song says: "When life gives you Garbage, you use it to Climb." Also.... we have discussed being sure who you want to marry. That's kind of a big decision! Stay away from the "Glens" and the "Lindas" in your life...
Now, Please sit back, and let's party like it's 1986!
