Notes from the Director . . .
There is nothing like high school theater. For so many it is the beginning of a love of performing, a career in the arts, life-long friendships stemming from similar interests. My passion for theater, music and performing has strong roots right here on this stage. Notre Dame Academy’s 1990 production of Godspell was my very first high school musical. I had finally mustered the courage to audition for the spring musical as a sophomore and was blessed with the opportunity to join the ensemble in this incredibly meaningful and uplifting story. We were an all-female cast, led by a charismatic female Jesus, and we had a production to be proud of. The memories are vivid and joyous, never to be forgotten. Despite being 35 years ago.
Thirty-five years ago, Mr. Johnson was brand new to Notre Dame Academy and embarking on his first show as Musical Director. Our first show together and, as a perfect bookend, our last show working together at NDA. I am so grateful to Mr. Johnson for nurturing my love of music and theater through my high school years. Being part of an ensemble, creating something from the ground up, singing choral music, learning to read music…these are all things I was able to do in high school thanks to my high school music and theater teachers and I do not take these experiences for granted.
This show will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope it fills you with as much joy.
