Director's Note
Now. Here. This. came to us by way of our Music Director Caryl Fantel's recommendation, and it could not speak more to the moment. The balance of desire for more and being fully present in our lives can be a tug of war for many of us. We spend so much time planning, working and living for the future, a future filled with prosperity, love, money, success, health and happiness. We keep that future picture in our mind's eye and work hard to achieve it. Meanwhile, life keeps going. We experience hardship, challenges, wins and losses. We continue to live even if we aren't paying attention to the moment.
The characters in Now. Here. This. find themselves at a crossroads. If only they had more. If only they were more. If only...then they would finally be happy. But they have life. They are alive. Right here. Right now. Doing exactly what they are doing. I hope that their journey of longing and discovery is one that you recognize and resonates with each and every one of you, and that you leave singing these catchy tunes to yourself. This journey with this group of students and professionals has been an absolute labor of love. May you feel that love and appreciate this very moment, with these very people, in this very space.
Now. Here. This. was originally produced by the Vineyard Theatre with Artistic Director, Douglas Aibel, and Executive Producer, Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell, in New York City (2012). Development of Now. Here. This. was supported by the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center during a residency at the Cabaret Performance Conference of 2009.
We thank you for sharing this evening with us!
