Director's Notes

I have to confess I didn’t like this musical the first time I saw it. The music and scenes were different, dark, and not common so I felt disappointed. But years passed and one of my voice students invited me to see it again as a Christmas present. I gave it a chance and went just to find out that I truly loved it this time. They made a few changes in the score, script and direction. It was the same dark, not common musical but with just a little work it was perfect.

Then I found the metaphor … It’s like The Addams Family! A little dark, very different and unusual and even ghoulish but when you get to know them you can see what a wonderful family it is.

What a necessary message for this times we are living in! We can’t judge anyone by their looks, race, preferences, accents or religion… we can just learn to love them the way they are… And who doesn’t love all the members of the Addams?

In every musical, everyone’s contribution is very important. We all must work together for the greater good of the show. I feel like it was yesterday when we had the auditions and we are here. Tonight we will show you all the wonders we can do together as a solid, magical team. It is never easy but in the end the reward is priceless.

It is next to impossible to put on a show without help and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to our producers Kal Paviolo and Dan Paviolo . Thank you for your support and trust.

OC Performing Arts.org has also been giving me the gift of getting to know superb people. It gave me the chance to meet one of the most talented choreographers I’ve ever known- Miss Cola, who is also a great friend. Thank you for being so amazing in all senses and for telling a story with every move you create. I can’t forget to mention Catherine Greenhill “Bean”, her sister who is a true artist and does the most impressive makeups! Special thanks to the Assistant Director, Josiah Madrigal who has been of great help all the time. I don’t know what I would do without your help each day.

To all our performer’s parents who give us all their patience, support and commitment. To our awesome performers who didn’t stop surprising us in every rehearsal. Your love for the theatre, your commitment and continuous improvement make me want to see this musical again and again.

Infinite thanks to God who put this melting pot together and made it work.

And least but never last to my wonderful family. Joel I love you with all my heart and I cherish your support and unconditional love. You are an amazing husband, a great dad and a wonderful musician. Fernando… my life would be nothing without you. I love you to the infinity and beyond! I dedicate this musical to both of you!

And now…you will witness what happens … When you’re an Addams!

ENJOY THE SHOW
