Welcome and thank you for joining us for a performance of this zany British comedy of manners based on the P.G. Wodehouse characters with whom many of you may already be familiar. This wacky ensemble work gives each cast member their go at high British comedy. The result, I hope you will agree, is one of the funniest, most entertaining nights of theatre you’ve experienced in ages!
In this story, the empty-headed Bertie Wooster is called to the country by his overbearing Aunt Dahlia. Bertie brings along his newt-loving school chum, Gussie Fink-Nottle. Nothing can be simple, of course, when the two of them find themselves in a romantic triangle with the melodramatic, fairy-adoring Madeline Bassett. Bertie also dodges the cleaver-waving Anatole the Chef as well as his shotgun-toting Uncle Tom.
As you can see, our stage has been transformed into a fabulous red brick courtyard country manner set where the clever advice and actions of the steady Jeeves assist Bertie, Gussie, and Aunt Dahlia. Once Bertie goes a tad too far, Jeeves is forced to resign from Bertie’s employment leaving Bertie in the proverbial lurch. What will happen as the shenanigans get wild and quite preposterous? Laughs and clever word play abound as the actors use their comedic and verbal skills, as well as their physical comic energy to garner the humor of Wodehouse’s characters.
I hope you enjoy watching as Jeeves runs every situation with a sturdy hand all while being seemingly invisible.
Please leave your worries at the door for a few hours and just laugh with us. What a great cast!
What fun!
