When I heard that our originally scheduled production for October 2020 of The Exonerated had to be cancelled, it seemed a shame but unavoidable. When our board president, Halina Malinowski, then suggested I direct an online streamed cabaret-type show including many of our favorite OotB actors, I balked as I am teaching college classes on Zoom this semester and stressed enough! But then I realized this could be a terrific way to reestablish our connections with each other and to reach even a broader audience than before!
I wanted to focus on creating a fun, positive, entertaining show that would display the multitude of talents among our actors—and I think we have accomplished this. Of course, this was not without its challenges—especially, for many of us “of an age,” dealing with new technology that we never wanted to learn! But with the amazing support and creativity of our technical director, Bob Johnson (a man with a wicked sense of humor—just what we often needed!); our amazing musical director, Woody Regan; our publicist, Jamie Baker; the many contributions of Susan Case, our associate producer; and the tireless energy of our producer, Halina Malinowski, you are witnessing a new type of venture for Out of the Box.
To our returning audience members, thank you so much for your continued support of this unique theater company—and many thanks also to the new people we have now added to our family as you meet us for the first time. All theater needs an audience, and we consider ourselves so lucky to have you all. Take good care.
