I am so proud of everyone's hard work on this production of Moana Junior! It’s such a beautiful show and I’ve got my tissues ready for what I know will be spectacular heartfelt performances. This show has been an incredible collaboration between the arts team and the 5th graders. I am especially grateful to our student teacher Ms. Barefoot who helped out on every aspect of the show. To the grown-ups (families, volunteers, staff): thank you for supporting the kid's growth in the arts at PS17. It makes all the difference in this world. To the performers: have so much fun on stage and off, stay focused, and I hope that the memories you make here will last forever. I can’t wait to see how far you’ll go. As Moana would say, “Break time is over. Get up!” Break a leg!!!!

As our fifth graders take the stage for Moana Jr., I'm reminded of the journey each of them has taken this year. They've discovered not only how far they'll go, but also the strenghth of where they are -as musicians, performers, and people. Together, they've shown that we know the way when we support one another and keep growing. Most importantly, I hope they carry forward the confidence to always know who you are. It has been a joy and a privilege to make music with this remarkable group-may their voices cotinue to rise and guide them wherever they go.

It takes a village to create something beautiful and magical, a Disney Junior musical with almost 100 students and staff, no less! Being part of something bigger than oneself and playing a role to the best of one's abilities are what I love most about Theater, and about Moana's story. Ensemble, your hard work and talents really shone through as you took on this challenge and call to adventure. It makes my heart leap with joy to hear you sing and learn new words in different languages, to see you paint, dance, and make costumes inspired by Polynesian culture, and to feel you perform with passion onstage and with calm mindfulness backstage. Ms. Nora, thank you for creating professional-grade costumes for all the main characters. We are so lucky to have you! And to our beloved arts team, The Creative Quad, I am so grateful to collaborate with such incredible and dedicated artists.
