 NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

When choosing this years Rising Stars production, I was looking for something that offered more than just a performance opportunity for our students. The goal for me is to find material that exposes these young artists to lessons and experiences that will help them grow both on and off the stage. What I have quickly learned over the last few years is that the performers here at 87Afterschool are a force to be reckoned with. I have found that their work ethic and their overall talent often exceed the average artist of their age. Regardless of how challenging I make their choreography and staging they consistently rise to the occasion and always surpass my expectations. Because of this, I wanted to challenge them artistically while also finding a musical that they can relate to and have fun with.

This brought me to ALADDIN JR! This story conveys the message that the grass is not always greener on the other side and that it is important to always be your truest self. I love that it teaches us that you are special and that you will be loved regardless of the clothes on your back or the money you may come from as long as you treat others with kindness and respect. Each and every student you see on stage will leave you in awe as they take you on this journey to Agrabah. They have all worked tirelessly to prove themselves, to be the best that they can be, and to give you (our audience and their biggest fans) a show that you won’t forget.

I thank you all for lending me your creative, funny, brave, and passionate children this year. It has been my honor working with this group and they have done nothing short of impress me, inspire me, and make me a better person. Disney is known for its magic and happy endings. My one wish (if only I had three) is that you leave this theater with a smile on your face and a happy tune in your heart. So sit back, relax, and join us on this magic carpet ride. I proudly present ALADDIN JR!
