DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Welcome to Palmdale Repertory Theatre's production of Hairspray!

In Hairspray, "it's 1962 — the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion — to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, 'The Corny Collins Show' and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do?"

To me, Hairspray is more than just fun music and dancing; it is about appreciating people for their differences and accepting people for who they are.  We should all be able to get along with each other no matter what we weigh, what side of town we are from, how high we wear our hair, what kind of music we listen to, or even the color of our skin.

What a fun summer! It has been such a pleasure getting to work with so much wonderful talent on and off stage.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of my cast and crew for a job well done!

And now, I invite you to sit back, relax, and "Welcome to the 60's!"
