The Addams Family - October 14 - October 23, 2016

Palmdale Repertory Theatre

 End Notes

A Word from Our Director

"The word theatre comes from the Greek word which means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation." -Stella Adler

Theatre is a learning place. Between the laughs, the applause, and the occasional tear we can find something to take away and apply to our everyday lives. It's a sort of a communal therapy we all engage in, performers and audience alike.

"They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family."

And yet in their strongest, proudest moments they never pretend to be something they aren't. The Addams simply expect that from everyone. 'To thine own self be true.' They understand we are stronger when we are first honest with ourselves, since it then allows us to be honest with others.

Integrity, the marriage of honesty and unity, and it's something I ask you to take away from this evening. This 'full disclosure' is the glue which unifies a family against any adversity which might wish to tear it apart. That despite all of your faults, shortcomings, and 'kooky'-ness, while everything else in this world is fluid and ever-changing, if you have integrity, you, and whomever you might call family, can be consistently content in your lives.

"If everyone were clothed with integrity, if every heart were just, frank, kindly, the other virtues would be well-nigh useless."
— Moliere [Jean Baptiste Poquelin]
