The Pajama Game - July 26 - July 28, 2024

Palmdale Repertory Theatre

 A Message from the Director

Welcome to The Pajama Game!

This musical has been on my bucket list for a long while. My family owned the album when I was young and it was a favorite. The music is jazzy and catchy and funny and you're sure to walk out humming and laughing.

The Pajama Game won the Tony Award for Best Musical of 1954 and the creative team went on to pen the smash hit Damn Yankees as well.

By today's standards the characterizations can seem dated, but seen through the lens of the times, they reflect many modern sensibilities. The Pajama Game deals with labor unrest and the need for fair wages, it touches on gender power dynamics and doesn't shy from a strong, independent, female who will stand up for what she believes in. But at its heart, it's a classical American musical comedy, where anyone may suddenly break into song and dance with minimal justification.

Enjoy the music, enjoy the comedy, enjoy this slice of mid-century culture, and don't take it all too seriously.

Many thanks to everyone who made this production possible. The cast and crew have been a delight to work with. I appreciate each of you and the time and travel you have put into the show.
