To be completely honest, I never let my kids watch SpongBob on TV when they were little. I’d seen a few episodes and I found some of the material to be a little inappropriate in my opinion. So - this musical was never on my radar.
I’m so grateful to my friend and fellow music teacher Adam Bett in Gowanda, NY for sending me this script! What better message can there be for all of us? “It’s the best day ever,” even when you think you’re at your lowest. There’s always a reason to look at the sun and see the positive side of things.
Personally, my last year has been filled with trauma and grief. But - surrounded by the joy of Primary School kids making music every day, being gifted the opportunity to direct this amazing cast, having the great honor of working with this extremely dedicated and talented MS musical team, and seeing so many months of work culminate in the performance you are about to see……I can find SpongBob’s optimism that, even when it appears all is lost - the sun will come up and a new day - the best day ever - can begin.
Thank you so much for coming today. Enjoy the show.
