Director's Note:

Often, choosing the right play is difficult. On rare occasions, the right play chooses you. This is one such happenstance. As an avid fan of Ian Doescher's William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily a New Hope and subsequent plays, it was a joy to receive the email notification of his most recent publication: William Shakespeare's Christmas Carol. This publication provided a unique opportunity to reintroduce Shakespeare to our student cast and crew through a well-loved story. Additionally, when we found out we would be the very first cast and crew to produce this work it added a new level of excitement, expectation, and focus. Our job as thespians was to do justice to Shakespeare's characters, Dickens' story, and Doescher's most recent work. It also provided an opportunity to exercise our dramaturgical skills by communicating with the author on creative ways to stage the work. The highlight of this production was video conferencing with Ian himself allowing students to ask him questions about inspiration, his vision for the work, and character notes. This production has been a labor of love and an exciting challenge. Your PVHS 'Paw'formers are proud to present the World Premiere of Wiliam Shakespeare's Christmas Carol by Ian Doescher. And I, once again, am grateful for the opportunity to teach and be taught by this incredible group of students. Enjoy the show.
