~Director's Note~

A Wrinkle in Time was originally published in 1962. It won the Newbery Medal, The Sequoyah Book Award, The Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and was a runner up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. This young adult science fiction book has been a favorite of many throughout the years.

I stumbled upon this play last year and I thought it was very interesting. The first thing that I did was buy the book because I had actually never read it before nor had I seen the movie. I really liked the book, it had heart, it was dark at times but ultimately the story is that love can overcome evil.  I still have never seen the movie as I didn't want it to have any impact on how I directed the show. Perhaps I will watch it when this is all over. I love the fact that this version of the play had the ensemble on stage the whole time as an essential part of the universe. Some characters can see them, some can hear them and some can only sense them, but they are there and I thought that added an interesting element.

To the cast who have worked very hard to memorize every line (there were a lot of lines), entrance, costume change and movement on stage.  This is a very difficult show and you have made it come to life with energy and enthusiasm.

To the crew who have worked to make sure that every set piece, prop, costume, swipe of makeup, picture, light and sound effect were ready to go, your work ethic is amazing.

To Annie Bathgate, who so graciously volunteered her time to help wherever she was neeeded, I thank you.

Thank you to the Hill Family who donated snacks for dress rehearsals, it was very much appreciated.

To my family and friends, who are always there when I call for help, from taking out my dog to running errands for the play. I am truly grateful to have such a great support system in my life.

Finally, to the audience, THANK YOU for  your support of Southwest Middle School's Theatre Department. We appreciate your attendance this evening.
