 GYPSY ROBE

On Broadway, when a new musical opens, it is tradition to honor a cast member before opening night with the Gypsy Robe. The recipeint wears the robe before each show, visiting all cast and crew members, a tradition meant to bring good luck and success to the production. The recipient then creates a patch to add to the robe as a remembrance of that production for years to come. The Piedmont Hils Gypsy Robe is given to the actor or actress who best exemplifies the highest level of dedication, enthusiasm, effort to improve and professionalism in a dramatic play or musical production.

The Gypsy Robe recipient for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND goes to KELLY HE. You will see Kelly on stage as a storyteller or as Mama Euralie during the 2pm Saturday matinee showcasing her as the understudy in that role.  Early on in the rehearsal process, Kelly became a leader by playing and posting music for each vocal part so that others could study at home. She has worked with singers during break and lunch, and used her down time to hone her own vocal, dance and acting skills. As a storyteller, Kelly learned over 15 songs and then went on to learn all the additional parts for the role of Mama Euralie. When she takes the stage, she does so with appreciation and joy. Every day, Kelly demonstrates the kind of dedicated preparation, professionalism and respect for theatre which makes her a role model for everyone else.  Thanks for your hard work and commitment.

CONGRATULATIONS KELLY!
