From the Directors...
Good evening, and welcome to the Pike Performing Arts Center! We’re thrilled you’ve chosen to spend an evening appreciating the many talents of the students and staff of the Pike High School Performing Arts Department. We always tell our students, Theatre is a highly collaborative process, and this production wouldn’t be possible without the support from staff and students from every discipline—Theatre, Choir, Band, Orchestra, and Dance.
Recently, we’ve produced more modern works for our Fall Musical, some of which you’ve probably seen—The SpongeBob Musical, The Wiz, and The Little Mermaid. For this show, we went all the way back to 1950, the Golden Age of Broadway. Guys and Dolls is a classic “musical fable” based on characters by the writer Damon Runyon. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Guys and Dolls was an instant hit, and has been performed all over the world ever since. In fact, Mr. Owens performed the show at a local theater many years back, and Ms. Vilensky has directed a junior production at another school. If you are familiar with Guys and Dolls, we hope that this production brings back fond memories of your experience with it. If you are not familiar, we hope that you’ll discover why the show is considered a classic.
The students and staff have been working hard since August to bring tonight’s performance to life for you! And we literally couldn’t do it without you. We wouldn’t do it without you! Because Theatre is collaborative, and we need an audience to perform for! Now more than ever, the Performing Arts in this country need your support. You could have chosen to spend an evening somewhere else, but by being here, you are telling our future performers and technicians that what they are doing is worthwhile. Thank you to the parents of our students who continue to support their student and our departments. And thank you for supporting Theatre in our school and your community! Enjoy the show!
