Children of Eden - July 22

Pinkerton Players

 Director's Letter

When we choose our musical dates in March we always know that our northern location could bring weather to put a crimp in our tech week or even our shows. But considering a Global Pandemic was not a thought that crossed our minds! We can very cleanly split our production process into two Acts:

Act One: Before March 13th

Act Two: After March 13th

There are so many thoughts to try to put down on paper when considering I’ve lived with this music in my brain for 14 months. But there is always one feeling that rises to the top: gratitude.

Gratitude for the remarkable production team who put in so many hours to get ready for March and then put in so many more hours to make sure that the students were able to complete this journey. Matt Cahoon, Rob Lemire, Mike Adams, Darcie Champagne, and Ryan Lopresti are truly remarkable individuals who I have the honor to call colleagues.

Gratitude to the Cast for their willingness to follow where the journey led even when it took them down turns they weren’t expecting. They have shown themselves to be patient and resilient and true artists.

Gratitude to the script and score that felt important enough to make the fight worthwhile. We all cried at the read through in early January. We cried during our last rehearsal on March 13th. We cried during our first Zoom rehearsal for the concert. We cried yesterday at our tech rehearsal. Some might say we are just emotional people. I would absolutely validate this. However, I would also say that the depth of the material continues to resonate with us and everytime I get to hear this music and listen to these scenes I am moved in new and unexpected ways. If you listen carefully I’d be shocked to hear that you didn’t at least mist up in some places.

Gratitude to the family and friends who are joining with us today. So many of you had already bought tickets and chose to donate that money back to the Pinkerton Players! We are so appreciative!  But just by joining us today you are allowing us to do what we love most: share stories and art with others.

“There is no journey gone so far,

so far we cannot stop and change directions.

No doom is written in the stars: It’s in our hands.

We cannot know what will occur.

Just make the journey worth the taking.

And we pray we’re wiser than we were in the beginning.

It’s the beginning.

Now we begin…”

Please enjoy this concert version of the Pinkerton Players production of “Children of Eden”. Our hearts overflow to be able to share it with you.
