Peter Pan the Musical - November 22 - November 23, 2019

Plainfield High School

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

First of all I must acknowledge once again that a production of this magnitude could not happen without the efforts of many people.  Special thanks to the most wonderful production team this side of “Neverland!” Aimee, Katelyn, Jonelle , Emily , Amy and RD… you have my humble gratitude and respect for the hard work you have done to make this show happen!! Thanks also to the student crews and parent helpers, your value is inestimable. And cast… you have far exceeded my expectations!! Bravo!! ( I love you all!!)

I am certain most have heard of the “Peter Pan syndrome”.   You know,  “the inability to grow up or to engage in behavior usually associated with adulthood.” Well , most of us would agree that we do indeed need to become responsible  human beings that contribute to society. However, I do think that Peter Pan gets a bum rap at times. Because there are some child like qualities that if retained, would make us better adults. And this is what I truly believe is the essence of this show…growing up, and yet remembering how our youth informed and spurred us on to attain our dreams and goals.

A Quote from J. M. Barrie’s book may say it best.

"Why can't you fly now, mother?"
"Because I am grown up, dearest. When people grow up they forget the way."
"Why do they forget the way?"
"Because they are no longer gay and innocent ... It is only the gay and innocent who can fly."

Another wise man once said,  “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

So my friends…grow up…but stay young at heart and you just might experience your dreams to the fullest!!
