Director’s Note for CATS:
Well, here we are again with another Primary Players production of a beloved musical. However, this time around we decided to tackle a different and difficult musical. CATS is our first “sung through” musical we have staged, and the young actors have embraced it and will dazzle you with their talent and artistry.
As with all our productions, all the singing is live. Yes, you are enjoying the voices of our 35 actors all younger than 18. Besides the challenge of learning the music and the exhilarating choreography, our team has pulled together stunningly beautiful designs for hair, makeup and costumes.
Our wigs and makeup are designed by 17-year-old Eden Carnes, and our costumes are designed by 17-year-old Natalie Heaton. These two young designers have brought so much style and color to this production.
As always, we couldn’t pull off a production of this magnitude without the leadership of Music Director Dr. Ken Hawkins and Choreographer Hilary Barrett. They do such a great job getting the most out of our creative team. Also, my personal thanks to our Stage Manager throughout rehearsals, Traci Giebudowski and our Producer Neil Stiles. Traci keeps us all informed and in line while Neil handles all the last minute details that help to make our show a success.
On behalf of the Primary Players Board of Directors and the creative team for CATS, we want to thank the staff and crew for the Clayton Center for the Arts. They are very patient and collaborative. They are a joy to work with on these productions.
Finally, my eternal gratitude to the community for your support of Primary Players. We thank you for your support and attendance. Enjoy the show.
