Miss Nelson Is Missing - May 09 - May 10, 2014

Prospect Ridge Academy

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

One might say a person has to be crazy to want to put together a production, much less the very first production in an environment that does not have a theatrical program already in place.  Many said it couldn’t be done… thankfully, Alice and I were crazy enough to believe that it could be done, and done successfully.  We realized that the benefits of a theatrical program far outweigh the challenges of its start-up.  The theatre experience offers students a world of opportunity, one that cannot be found in text books nor measured by exams.  It challenges kids toward innovative ideas, creative conclusions, effective communication, teambuilding, and strengthens their self-confidence.  Not to mention… it’s a lot of fun.

When we chose Miss Nelson is Missing to be the first PRA middle school production, we were astounded by the level of interest.  Triple the number of students expected showed up for auditions and we knew then and there that we had our work cut out for us.  As the weeks passed, exhaustion gave way to anticipation and from it birthed excitement.  Characters came alive before our eyes as the actors tackled their roles with determination; and though some of our cast and crew had never before worked on a production, each one rose to the challenge.  There were obstacles along the way, but together we hurdled them, and trudged adventurously forward into unchartered territory. It has been at times frustrating, enlightening, uplifting and frightening...but that's entertainment...and we wouldn't want it any other way.  We have delighted in working with the students and are thankful to have had the opportunity to help birth the first PRA production.

On behalf of the entire cast and crew of Miss Nelson is Missing, we hope you enjoy the show.

What an adventure—especially for a retired CPA!  From the beginning until the end of this roller coaster journey, I stand in awe of the whole process.  However, my reason for undertaking this adventure remains steadfast.  Susan and I firmly believe that the social and ethical leaders we are raising in our PRA community could all benefit from a theater/drama experience, and not only as a spectator.  Hopefully every child involved in this odyssey has had a positive experience and has polished or learned a new life skill.   I know we have!

Thanks to all who helped us take this trek and make it a success on so many levels.  Let’s keep the momentum going.  But for now, sit back and enjoy the show.
