Shrek The Musical JR. - August 19 - August 20, 2015

Queens College Summer Camp

 End Notes

About the Theater Program:

Every summer, students in the theater program put on four musicals and two performance showcases.  In addition to their rehearsals and preparations for these shows, students receive training in acting, music, and dance.  In acting, students learn a variety of approaches to character and scene development, as well as basic techniques useful in live theatrical performance. In music, students learn proper singing techniques and work on musical styles that range from Disney to rock 'n' roll. Students study multiple disciplines in dance class including jazz, ballet, modern, musical theater, hip hop, and tap.

Aside from becoming well versed in the performing arts, students take away skills that apply to their life outside the theater, such as confidence in front of a crowd, public speaking abilities, a strong sense of self, and improvisation skills.  After performing a song and dance in front of hundreds of people, anything is possible!

A Note from the Director:

My favorite part of the theater program is seeing the growth of students year after year.  There have been so many students who have come to us with no theater experience.  They are often shy at first, but start to blossom immediately when put in such a creative and open environment.  Over time, they become more confident in their classes, more outgoing in rehearsals, and develop their own artistry.  I always enjoy the audition process because we are able to immediately see a student's progress: the once quiet child singing softly behind a lyric sheet is now smiling, moving about the stage with ease, and belting his/her heart out.  While everyone does such an amazing job in the performance of the musicals, it is the process of watching them get to that point that is the most rewarding.
