Director's Note
In the midst of another school year of uncertainty, I knew I wanted our musical to accomplish three things: 1. challenge the students 2. bring back a sense of normalcy 3. make people laugh and feel joy. I believe that The Drowsy Chaperone has met these goals!
1. The students have been working hard every week in rehearsals: learning difficult music, practicing demanding choreography, memorizing lines that require precise comedic timing, AND meeting all the other expectations of an Upper School student at Ravenscroft. Our crew has worked diligently to create and organize the set, props, and lighting for the show, and I am so grateful for them! We could not do the show without their efforts.
2. Through performing a full-length show, working with a choreographer, and re-instating several cast traditions, we have brought a little life back into the Jones Theater. The most significant part of "returning to normal" has been the reinstatement of a live audience for our shows! I am incredibly grateful for the work of Dr. McChesney, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Nelson, and all the others who have made it possible for parents, families, and friends to see their loved ones live on stage this year.
3. Lastly, I wanted a show that would bring joy. I feel that the Man in the Chair is a great representation of how most of us have felt over the past two years: "a little anxious...a little sad...a state I call 'blue.'" He is alone in his apartment, seeking comfort from an old familiar friend--his favorite musical. Although you may not be familiar with this show, I hope that this performance brings you some happiness and laughter; "a little escape from the dreary horrors of the real world."
I am so proud of the work that the cast and crew have brought daily to this production, and I am very grateful to be a part of this team. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the show!
