SIX: Teen Edition - May 02 - May 03, 2025

Regina Dominican High School

 Director's Note

Welcome to Six, where history is turned on its head, the queens take center stage, and the past is given a voice like never before. This musical is a celebration of women, power, and resilience. Through its dynamic storytelling and electrifying performances, Six offers a fresh perspective on the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, reimagining them as modern pop stars who tell their own stories, on their own terms with live music supporting the story. Each wife has her own song with its pop artist’s “Queenspiration”: from Beyoncé to Adele, Rihanna, Ariana Grande to Britney Spears, they compete to be voted the most hard done by of Henry’s wives. The lyrics are full of wit and there is at least some truth in the historical interpretation of most of the wives.

What makes this production even more special is the talented group of young performers you will see. They have brought fresh perspectives, energy, and authenticity to these iconic roles, showing us that these historical figures’ struggles, triumphs, and voices are just as relevant today as they were centuries ago. The talent doesn't just stop on the stage. I am so lucky to have such a thriving Technical Theatre program at Regina Dominican. These students dip their toes in all the backstage realms of the theatre and if they choose so, can apply it to our productions! Each and every aspect of this show is led by a Regina student. From the set and choreography, to lights and sound; these students took ownership. I am a very lucky teacher.

This show has been a whirlwind of fun! Who knew that the end of the school year was so busy.....! As I sit here and reflect on this journey, I have learned so much from this process. I have to quit being so hard on myself! Things will work out in the end. I learn so much more from the things that don't work out than from the ones that do. I am so proud of all that we were able to accomplish in the short time spent on this show!

As you watch Six, I encourage you to think about what it means to stand strong in your truth, to embrace who you are, and to let your voice be heard. These queens have faced trials and heartache, but they have also found their power in the telling of their stories. And that’s exactly what you’ll see tonight—six women rewriting history, one song at a time.

Break a leg, Queens!
