NOTES from our DIRECTOR:
Daniel Geiger
Hello all! I was thrilled to get the call to work on this production! Anyone who knows me, knows how much of a dang poetical, philosophical nerd I am, and 'Romeo and Juliet' is all of the things I love (emphasis on Love) rolled up in one. I’ve appreciated every second of staging Shakespeare in the round with this cast and crew, they’re each and every one of them uniquely excellent… and I’m thrilled to have them demonstrate that to you in our show.
This show has allowed us to talk about love and generational pain in way that’s been enlightening to me. So often we look to young people and dismiss the sheer magnitude and reality of their feelings and experiences... I wanted this show to be a safe space that allowed these young people to explore living out loud, with beautiful poetry and iambic pentameter as their medium.
Special thanks to you, Ms. Carlson, to the parents for sharing their kids with the drama program, to my partner, friends and family for sharing me, and thank you to the cast and crew for hard work, dedication and trust.
Please enjoy our show!!!
PROGRAM DIRECTOR NOTES:
Elesa Carlson
This play's journey began with a love of Shakespeare, a team of supportive dreamers who appreciate the magic of a black box in the round, and a strong desire to give MORE students a chance to participate in our campus productions. Michael Shaw, thank you for the condensed script and continual support, my friend. And what a pleasure to work with sensational director, Daniel Gieger! Daniel's positive and collaborative style was a perfect complement to our production team. We couldn't have pulled this off without that fabulous production team: Kylie Clement, Errah Shuffield and Sam Van Patten. Thanks to each of you for taking this journey with us. Big cheers to the parents of Sierra Smith, Isable Abrigo, Demarie Diel, and Gabby Bailey who so generously fed our masses. And most of all- to my "masses"- our fantastic and talented cast and crew, you SHINE with such kindness for each other- thank you for leaving the (negative) drama at the door and creating a joyful experience for all! To ALL who supported our students and production (parents, teachers, admin, friends, and sweethearts), pulling off a 2 month production isn't easy and YOU made it possible, thank you! To MJ & my sweetheart, who painstakenly oversaw construction and put up with me - I love you most of all!
Thank you to our audience, if you like what you see, please come back for more!
