Making God Laugh - February 13 - March 23, 2025

Ritz Community Theatre

 A Note from the Director

We all have dreams and goals as we grow up. We see a certain path for ourselves. And likewise, we have dreams and visions for our children. And sometimes the children have other ideas. “Making God Laugh” is a story that follows a family for over 30 years. I read this play several years ago and immediately fell in love with the premise of this beautiful story. The characters are real, and their struggles are relatable. Truly, it is a family predicament that most have shared, and I laughed and cried my way through it. “Making God Laugh“ is a beautiful story of a family that navigates the twists and turns of life, parents who deeply and passionately love their children…sometimes to a fault. Allowing our children to live their own lives is sometimes harder than giving up on our own dreams. Sometimes, the sacrifices of those original plans allow for an even sweeter and more precious life than what we could’ve imagined.

This is the fourth play I have directed at the Ritz. Others include Suessical the Musical, Suite Surrender, and Clue. I would like to thank my husband, Kyle, who always supports my endeavors, builds the sets that I imagine, runs my sound and lights, and any other honey do’s that might come up. He puts up with weird meals & crazy schedules so that I can fuel my creativity, and I couldn’t do it without him. Thank you to my grown children, Olivia & Will, for being a sounding board for my vision. Thank you to the Ritz Board for allowing me to share this story with you.
